The 1-piece aluminum driveshaft for the Scion FR-S and Subaru BRZ is a complete 6061-T6 3" aluminum shaft that is approximately 1/2 the weight of the factory 2-piece driveshaft. The 1-piece aluminum shaft features larger, replaceable and greaseable u-joints. By removing the factory 2-piece shaft and installing a single shaft the car will feel more responsive due to the lighter weight of the shaft and also the fact that the hanger bearing is not moving up and down during acceleration.
Driveshaft Shop Aluminum Weight is 13.2lbs. Stock is 24.2lbs
The aluminum portion of the driveshaft is coated to resist corrosion.

Light, easy, and did I say light already?
My 7 year old was carrying it over his head, that’s how light this thing is. Easy install but make sure you have a swivel ratchet or attachment to be able to tighten the bolts to the differential, it’s a tight space.
You can absolutely feel the difference when driving. Takeoffs are so light now and you can feel the difference in throttle response. This part makes this car even more fun to drive.
So easy, so fun!
It took me and my friend 15 minutes to remove the factory shaft and install this. Drivability is better (smoother shifting and better throttle response) and I do not hear the noise the other review refers to.
One of the best mods I've done
I've had the FT86 UEL headers & Openflash Tuning mods before this. While the UEL got rid of the torque dip & the OFT made the HP more available throughout the power band, the DSS Aluminium Driveshaft even took both mods to a higher level. Since the rotational mass is significantly reduced, the power delivery to the wheels is immediately felt, and the car handles lighter too especially when exiting corners. Rev matching is easier as well. My kids noticed that the car runs smoother as it doesn't jerk anymore during shift changes even if it's driven hard.
I guess the only downside for some people is that it makes a noticeable whirling sound like a supercharger. I welcome it as the car sounds more hi-tech.
IMO, this is a great 3rd mod after the tires & free-flow headers for the upgrades to theToyoBaru to unlock the car's power & have a more fun driving experience.
